An artist and creative out of Northwest Arkansas found herself spiraling into the meditative state of mandalas. Her designs range from intricate to very simplistic. Jo Domino started creating mandalas as a way to just relax and pass the time, but little did she know that she would have the opportunity to publish her mandala designs into a coloring book format for everyone to get a taste of that relaxing experience that they provide. Get to know a little bit about what inspires her creative process and what she is up to this year, who knows her mandalas could end up on the side of a building in your city.

Who are you and what do you do?

– My name is Jo Domino. I’m a barista by day and an artist by night. I love creating digitally, but I’ll always have a sweet spot for colored pencils & my sketchbook. When I need a break from pattern design I find myself playing with design through macrame.

What style of art or artist do you most identify with?

– I lean heavily towards mandalas.  There are calmness and inner peace I find when I’m creating a pattern step by step.  It allows my mind to take a back seat and be present.

What do you dislike and like about the art world?

– I love the subjective nature of the art world. Everyone experiences it differently, which allows everyone to find something they like in the mass amounts of content being produced.  However, I feel like its a double edged sword. With so many artist producing, many very talented artist are never recognized.

What is your dream project?

– My dream project is something that came to me during a meditation, which I’d love to talk about once I bring it to life 🙂 But a not-so-secret dream project of mine is to paint a mural on a building in Fayetteville, AR.  It’s the place I consider home, & to put my mark on it before I’m off to the next adventure would be an honor.

What is an artistic outlook on life?

– For me, an artistic outlook on life requires you to find the beauty in what surrounds us.  Big. Small. Man-made. Or Natural.  It’s all about seeing the beauty in what is.
